    If you have Chrome: get Tampermonkey to use it! Greasemonkey for Firefox, and I'm unsure about other browsers.

    The story behind the species "Gelert"

    This is a bit of a tangent I realise but I wondered whether anyone would be interested in hearing the origin of the name Gelert? I'm warning you, it's a sad story, but it's one that is routinely told to little kids here in Wales at school, always resulting in a class full of sobbing seven year olds!

    The legend goes that Llywellyn Fawr, a prince in old Wales, had a faithful dog called Gelert. He was in the habit of leaving the dog to look after his baby son while he went out hunting (ikr, different times!) and the arrangement had always worked well for him until one terrible day when he returned from the hunt to find the baby's cradle tipped over and apparently empty, and Gelert there with blood around his mouth.

    Llywellyn, enraged, drew his sword and killed the dog in a frenzy of grief. Just then, he heard a crying noise, and when he moved the pile of covers that had tipped out of the cradle, he found his baby son, unharmed, and next to him was the body of a huge wolf who had been killed by the faithful dog, saving the baby's life.

    Llywellyn was so sad and remorseful that he gave the dog a lavish burial (there is still an alleged grave site to this day and the place where it stands is called Beddgelert which translates as Gelert's grave) and even after that, they say that Llywellyn never once in his life smiled again after that awful day.

    So there we go, you can see how upsetting a story that is for little kids, but it's part of our traditional stories and all Welsh children remember the day they heard about the best and saddest dog of all!

    Legitimate question, not throwing shade here. I've been battling a particularly nasty bout of depression lately and I'm trying to find things to occupy my time and mind. Neo was good for me in the past but I spent a lot of time on the PC which led me down some pretty negative paths and I'd like to find other ways to occupy my time. Any suggestions?

    Finally gave my WN, pound adopted, labrat a break and morphed him back to an (eventide) Gelert (poogles just aren't warriors...nor ogrins...nor techos.... he started as a skunk Gelert) and gave him this dreamy, demigod, protector custom inspired by Apollo. Lex=law, Anton=wisdom.

    Edit: Thanks to the curiosity for giving me a Mozito to trade for the MP! Some good old Reddit luck!
