    TNT desperately needs to create a proper "Side Account System"

    \Disclaimer: This is going to be lengthy and somewhat ranty. I also realize that TNT is busy with other matters. This is something I have thought of for a while now and would just like to discuss. I'm by no means demanding that TNT do this now.**

    I'd like to have a discussion about one of Neopets' longest and consistently annoying issues: Side Accounts.

    The official stance on multiple accounts is this (unless things have changed since my hiatus): You are allowed to have a maximum of 5 accounts, all of which are tied to the same email address. One of these accounts is your "Main" account and the other 4 must be "Side Accounts" which are heavily restricted in terms of what you are able to do with them.

    There are 2 big issues with this though. One, there is no official list of Side Account rules, restrictions, and guidelines. In fact, during my search, I could only find generic warnings stating that you cannot use multiple accounts to gain Neopoints or items. Two, there is no "Side Account System" which means users have to tread very carefully and self-regulate their side account usage. In other words, it's based on an honor system.

    Let's tackle the lack of a rule list first.

    Side Account Rules List

    While a lot of Side Account do's and don't's are self-expanatory (i.e. don't play games or do dailies as they earn items and NPs), there are sooo many topics that fall in a gray area (Lab Ray, RE's, Battledome, Faerie Quests, etc.) that are not officially clarified. The vast majority of Side Account rules are buried away in Editorials in the Neopian Times when users ask specific questions about whether or not something is allowed.

    Now this causes several issues on its own:

    • It makes it tedious and frustrating having to dig through countless editorials to clarify a rule.
    • Because it is tedious to research all these rules, users may accidentally break one as they were unable to find it.
    • New users may not know about these Editorial Rules at all and thus unknowingly break several Side Account rules.
    • It makes it tough for TNT themselves to enforce Side Account rules when there's so many of them scattered about

    "But wait!" you say. "There are several fansites that neatly breakdown the dozens of Side Account rules!"

    This IS nice and convenient, but you should *not* have to rely on fans and third party sites to organize your many rules. Actually, the fact that you have to go offsite to understand these rules easier just further proves my point.

    TNT *needs* to create a section of the site where we can easily see rules and guidelines for Side Accounts. It's frankly pretty mind-boggling how we've gone 20 years without a proper list considering how big Side Accounts are to the Neopets experience.

    Even then, however, the rules can get extremely confusing. Look at this excerpt from the latest editorial regarding Side Accounts:

    Hi TNT, please can you clarify a couple of rules regarding side accounts. 1) If we only have the lab ray on our side account and want to battle the Lab Ray Scientist JUST to change the gender of our pet, are we allowed to? Assuming we make zero attempt to win the battle and withdraw from the battle as soon as the gender is changed (so no prizes). 2) If we only have the lab ray on our side account, are we allowed to use the lab ray cookies? 3) Is 2 player battling allowed on side accounts, assuming all weapons and faerie abilities are funded from our main account? Thanks :)Hi, 1) No, you cannot use the battledome on side accounts; this is because there are prizes given out for winning. If you want to use the battledome to change the gender of a pet, it would be best to transfer the pet to your main, fight there and once you have gotten the change, move your pet back to your side account. 2) Yes, if you only have the lab ray on your side account, then you would be able to use the lab ray cookies on that account. However, if you ever get the lab ray on your main account, you would then only be able to use the cookies on that account. 3) Since you do not receive any points or items from 2 player battles that would be fine but just keep funding these from your main.

    Even if you find the rule you're looking for, just look how confusing that is.

    "No you cannot use the Battledome because it awards items, even if you quit before an item is awarded. But also you can use the Battledome, just for 2v2 battles. Yes, you can use the Lab Ray Cookies on your side account. Unless you have a Lab Ray on your main account, then it's against the rules. Don't do it."

    And that is just *one* example. Even the Side Account Rules aren't "blanket" answers. There's always exceptions and "asterisks" and technicalities with so many rules:

    • You can have a bank account* but don't collect interest.
    • You can't do dailies that give you items* but the Healing Springs is OK even though you sometimes get items.
    • You cannot buy from site shops* except the hidden tower if your side account is older than your main.
    • You can open a user shop on your side account* but it must remain forever empty and never used.
    • You can switch your side account to be your main* but only do it like once or twice.

    It's sloppy. This is why I think we need something even better than just a rules list. Something like a...

    Side Account System

    Even better than a long list of rules would be a proper Side Account System. First let's discuss what a Side Account System would entail:

    This would be, ideally, a place on the site that would allow you to create a side account *from* your main account. It would be directly linked to your main and you would be able to manage it from there as well. The system would allow you to create 4 sides and cut you off afterwards. Perhaps you could even seamlessly switch accounts without having to log out and back in (maybe via PIN use?)

    The main function of this system would be to AUTOMATICALLY block any and all site functions that are not allowed. Games room? Error message comes up and tells you to switch to your main. Trying to do a daily? Same thing. Buying from a shop? Items are grayed out. Etc, etc. This would instantly provide peace of mind for everyone as they physically wouldn't be able to break a rule by mistake.

    TNT could also add extra quality of life perks to this too. Perhaps we could seamlessly moves pets between sides without using transfers. Side account pet gets sick or hurt? Buy the cure on your main and use it on your side pet without having to gift the item then log out/back in. They could even upgrade Userlookups to show miniature snapshots of your side accounts/pets so you can see your whole Neo-life together on one page.

    I'm by no means saying that this is a perfect idea, but honestly anything TNT could do to improve the side account system would be welcome. I fully expect them to **not** create a system like this, as I'm sure the smaller team has much more pressing matters to attend to.

    Regardless, this is something that I would love to see come to fruition someday so that I can stop walking on eggshells on my side accounts and also have it be much easier for newer users to understand.

    If anyone has any other ideas or suggestions, please share! I made this post with the intention of starting a discussion and hearing what others have to say about this system, good or bad.

    I was attempting to trade my FFQ for an UC but that never happened so I decided to make a pet I've always really liked. Woodland Unis are so adorable!! I wish there were more woodlands with their color palette / theme.

    Rainbow Fountain Dip Giveaway!

    I did a small favor for the Grey Faerie so the Fountain Faerie did a solid for me. I already have all of my dreamies so I figured I'd pass the dip onto someone else.

    Please read the rules listed below:

    1. I can't paint a pet you already have. I can't do a pound transfer with you where you pound the pet & I adopt it quickly. It must be a pet that is already in the pound or one that I create for you.
    2. Please have a couple of names in mind when you enter the drawing. If you want to see a list of names of pets in the pound I suggest going to Lost and Pound. I also suggest not posting the names that you want down below (you don't want someone else to snag it before you do!)

    I got my old account back! Now what do I do with two accounts?

    I worked hard to find my old account because I was curious of where I was at. I had two painted Neopets, with one that is just like my dog, and a Kiko. The old account is a bit cringe, but I'm happy to be able to log in it. I still prefer my new one just because it doesn't have my name as my username (oh, the regret I have 8 years later) but I wish to have some old things on my new one.

    I know some people have two accounts, like a main and a side as I saw on the NeoBoards. What do you do with that?

    I can't get NC cash cards here but I heard they were one of the better ways to get gift boxes. When I looked up getting the cards online I saw a post in this forum where people recommended ScratchMonkey to get them online.

    Anyone know if this is still a good place? And do you get the gift boxes from redeeming their codes?

    Getting an old account back?

    Hi everyone

    So I have this old account that I started 12 years ago and used until about 3-4 years ago i would say. I changed computer and cannot remember the password, or even the email i used back then, pretty sure the birthdate is wrong since back then you didn't put those informations online... But I do know the in-game password used for the bank and such. I think I read somewhere that this could be enough to get my account back

    But problem is, I have another account on which I played, collected np and whatever else. This second account is 7yrs old and I guess I created it one day when I was bored? I'm pretty sure i never cheated and send things back and forth between the two but I can't be sure. So I have this whole illegal account that I don't care about but still have, and I have played on it a bit lately because I wanted to play and didn't have access to the first one

    So now I'm paranoid that if i create another account to ask to retrieve the first one, they will see that i have this other account on the same IP and tried to connect to the first one a lot... Should I try anyway? Should I just delete the second account? Should I just forget about the first one and can never get it back?

    Maraquan Shoyru Petpet Suggestion Help

    I am looking for a new petpet for my pet. I used to have Delfin, but I am exploring other options now. Here are some I have thought of Green Hippalop, Maraquan Mazzew, Blurtle, Graglop. Do you have any ideas? There are just so many petpets that I thought I would ask you all! Thanks!

    Edit: I have been using the petpet matcher, but there are a lot of petpets which is why I am asking for help haha
