    Introduction Post - Matches Sent Out - Share Your Gifts - Reveal Thread

    The festive season is almost here yet again, and you know what that means, right? Secret Santa is back for its fourth consecutive year!

    OVERVIEW

    If you're looking forward to participating in this year's gift-giving bonanza, you can sign-up with the forms linked below! Like last year, there are two separate forms for on-site gifting and one for art! You are of course welcome to sign-up for just one, or you can sign-up for both! You will receive one (randomized) match from either pool (or both if you signed up for both) and you will be matched yourself. We urge you to be as specific as possible while filling out the forms to make it easier for your Santa to give you the perfect gift(s)! During the event, we will have a thread up so you can show off your presents, and in the end, we will post a compiled Imgur album with all of the art from the exchange.

    THE SPECIFICS:

    1. Read the entire post (yes, you really should) and check in regularly for updates!
    2. Sign up HERE FOR ON-SITE GIFTS and HERE FOR THE ART EXCHANGE! Sign-ups close Monday, November 25th. We will not be accepting latecomers this year. So please sign up sooner rather than later!
    3. Matches will be sent out via PM on Reddit. You should receive these by Saturday, November 30th. The matches will be random.
    4. Buy/make/prepare your gifts! (If you are participating in the on-site gifting, the gifts must be from on-site. No real money exchanges allowed. Ex: Do not ask for Steam keys, etc...)
    5. a) If you're taking part in the on-site gifting, feel free to send your presents right away. This may take away the surprise, but doing so will go a long way to smoothing everything out for everyone involved! It's probably a good idea to drop your giftee a Neomail just in case they can't accept your gift within the 48-hour period, giving them time to get back to you when they can!

    Remember not to mention "Reddit", "Discord", "r/Neopets", "Secret Santa", "Kris Kringle" etc... or you risk your account be silenced or worse, frozen.

    You need to send your gifts by Friday, December 20th. You are welcome (and encouraged) to send your presents out as soon as you get your match. This is helpful in case your giftee doesn't respond to you within the allotted gift-giving period, and you can reach out to [Me/Novey] or [Bumna] to discuss it so we can help! If you're a user on the Discord server, you may also feel free to send either one of us a direct message there for a faster response.

    1. b) If you are participating in the art exchange, your art (please provide an Imgur link) needs to be sent to your giftee through Reddit—and to either Bumna or I, by Friday, December 20th. If you could do so earlier, we would be grateful!

    2. You should have sent and received some goodies! We'll be doing a reveal at the end for all the art!

    3. a) If your giftee never accepted the gifts, please PM either [myself] or [Bumna] about being rematched.

    4. 7b) If you didn't receive a gift, PM one of us and we'll get you rematched!

    5. 7c) If you've signed up to be a backup Santa, please stand by to receive any giftees! You'll have until the end of the month to provide backup gifts. Any back-ups will be requested between December 21st and 31st, so please don't vanish!

      1. Come hang out with other members of the community on Discord! There's a channel titled #holidays where users can talk openly about the holiday season and this event!

    FAQs

    > What kind of gifts can I give?

    For the on-site gifting, you can give Neopoints items or NC items, heck you can even give pets (so long as you ask your match beforehand, make sure they have room, and the pets follow Neopets rules). If you signed up for the art exchange, you're only limited by your imagination. The most common gifts are digital and traditional drawings, but you are welcome to paint, sculpt, knit, sew, crochet, write, etc…

    > Is there a spending limit?

    Not at all! However, please keep in mind that not everyone on the site is considered wealthy, nor are the participants expected to spend millions of neopoints on gifts. You may not get exactly what you were asking for, but ultimately it's the thought that counts! With that in mind, please try and give gifts that you think your giftee will enjoy! :D

    > Is there anything I can't give?

    You are welcome to gift anything you think would fit your giftee! As for the art exchange, please keep all gifts safe for work and make sure they follow the rules of the Subreddit/Discord (Discord partner rules included). Also, please DO NOT give out real money items (and do not ask for real money stuff).

    > I signed up, but it turns out I can't give a gift after all/I have to withdraw/I'm running late What do I do? D:

    Please message either Bumna or me ASAP! We understand that things happen and life gets busy during this time of year, but we need to rematch your giftee! So the sooner we know, the better!

    > My account is silenced, can I still participate?

    YES! However, you may need to contact them via Reddit. If your giftee asked not to be contacted on Reddit, please get in touch with us so we can contact them on your behalf. If there are any other issues, feel free to PM either of us and we can work on fixing them together!

    > Art participant disclaimer!

    If you are gifting art to someone this season, please remember and follow the rules on Neopets. You may not use your gifted art to participate in the beauty contest, art gallery, or other contests such as the random contest, site spotlight, user lookup spotlight, etc. Claiming someone else's art as your own is frowned upon and can lead to your account being frozen if used improperly!

    REMINDERS

    ​

    • Double-check your on-site settings and preferences! Make sure you can receive gifts and Neomail from non-neofriends. Please also make sure you can receive messages on Reddit as well (double-check your privacy permissions).
    • You need to accept gifts within 48 hours or your gifts will be returned to the sender. :(
    • Do not, under any circumstances mention r/Neopets, the Discord, Reddit, Secret Santa, Kris Kringle, etc... on Neopets.com. We cannot stress this enough! It is against the rules and you could get in trouble for doing so! If you send a Neomail, feel free to call it a "Christmas/Holiday Gift" as this is fine to mention! If you receive a Neomail mentioning any of the disallowed words above, block the user, delete the Neomail, and let either Bumna or myself know their username so we can check to see if they're a registered participant, etc...
    • If your Santa or Giftee go MIA, message us either on Reddit or Discord and we'll rematch you!

    November 9th - Secret Santa signups open

    November 25th - Signups close

    November 30th - Matches go out

    November 30th to December 20th - Gifts go out

    December 21st to December 31st - Back-ups requested and remaining gifts go out

    Recently came back to Neopets and I'm determined to get the plushie paintbrush I've been eyeballing for 17 years. I''ve got about 600k to go and i'm debating if i want to save up extra neopoints just to have or say heck with it and buy it ASAP.

    After years of a space theme (piloted by a Starry Kougra and Alien Aisha) I told re-did my pets and profile as two Vandagyre siblings. They've been my favorite since their release. Would love comments and ideas for more!

    Frozen in Time Rose or MME22-S5: Trapped Rose Trinket

    So my dream is to create a beauty and the beast themed custom for my tyrannian lupe. He would be the beast obviously, and I'd set it in a dangerous, snow-themed landscape. I know all the items I need, but I am missing one: the rose. I'm looking for one of these two NC items: Frozen in Time Rose or MME22-S5: Trapped Rose Trinket. I can offer Sparkling Emerald Earrings. It's the only NC item I have that I'm not already using/needing. If anyone is willing to trade, my user there is Violettec98. If anyone knows how I can get my hands on it, please, please, please let me know. I really want to fulfill this dream; beauty and the beast has been one of my favorite fairy tales since I was a little girl! Not to mention, I want to show off my handsome boy's soft side!

    If you have Chrome: get Tampermonkey to use it! Greasemonkey for Firefox, and I'm unsure about other browsers.

    Favorite items to resell?

    I have lofty goals of the Others stamp avatar 😅 I play food club, do daily ghoul catchers, and restock my shop. I need to get better at restocking but honestly I am more inclined to reselling at this point.

    My old spreadsheet of go to stamps to resell have dropped significantly in price. Going to go through and update that later today! But out of curiosity, what do you enjoy reselling mostly? I see some people specialize in specific areas. Hoping to find my niche soon! Do you suggest sticking to one area or sniping any and all item types? Hopefully this question makes sense!

    I plan on making a petsite similar to neopets but I don’t know what to prepare. Any advice anyone?

    I'm not sure if this is the right reddit to post this but I'm trying to do some research into this before I commit.

    1) please no one say "it's a wild dream" or "don't bother" — I want to know what I'll need to look into to MAKE it happen

    2) I don't have a lot of money, but I have art skills, writing skills, minor game development skills, and some business know how. That being said, I'm willing to save up and look into options like Kickstarter and patreon for funding.

    3) my idea is an avatar site with pets. A similar system to early neopets with world exploration, a (balanced) economy, and a focus on collection. Later on I'd like to add mini games but I just want to see if the site is possible to begin with

    the main questions I have are:

    • should I create a lot of assets and site mockups/sketches before looking into hiring programmers?
    • what do I need to know/look into before setting up?
    • would anyone play?
