    Hello! Welcome to the Weekly Customization Thread (a.k.a Trendy Thursdays), this is where you can request help to customize one of your pets, and anyone who wants to help can reply to them.

    Also, if you have any general question about NC, or what petpet goes with your pet, etc, feel free to ask here too!

    Rules:

    To ask for help on a customization, you need to provide the following information:

    • Species.

    • Colour.

    • Gender.

    • Name of the pet. (Not necessary, but it might help get a better understanding of a theme)

    • Theme, if you have any.

    • Limitations on wearables, if you can only use NP, or you can also use some NC.

    • If you are able to cross-paint your pet.

    format is not necessary to copy, also if you have a half-finished custom you don't have to provide the info :)

    To help make customizations, please try to follow these simple guidelines:

    • Include a link to the customization. (Using DTI or JN's Wardrobe)

    • Try to include a brief summary of why you customized like that. (Not necessary but it can help!)

    • If you use expensive NC items, make sure to find other items to replace them (if the user can't afford them).

    • You can reply to anyone who needs help, you can't take dibs on one user.

    • You can also reply to other customizations offered to do constructive criticism or offer modifications. (Remember to be nice.)

    • If the customization you reply with is not yours, please give credit to the creator.

    Last year I made a new account to help curb some of the worst effects of my anxiety disorder, and a big part of that focus has been on my gallery. I'm trying to create a safe space for friends to come and visit when they need to, so if anyone's feeling sad or stressed, this was made specifically for you ♡

    If you have Chrome: get Tampermonkey to use it! Greasemonkey for Firefox, and I'm unsure about other browsers.

    Is there an easy way to sift through SDB for valuable items?

    Hey people, returning Neopian here. I got access to my old account finally (although it is apparently permanently silenced and I am not sure why... any suggestions on that are also welcome.)

    Anyway, I have over 2k items in my SDB. I think many may be very valuable. Is there a trick to quickly check the prices or sort or anything?

    Help me pick colors because I can't decided who to make what!

    Once again I am looking to reddit to help my indecisive-ass.

    Here's some of the colors I really want. Mutant Peophin, Mutant Eyrie, Mutant Draik, Alien Aisha, Darigan Xweetok, Snot Aisha, Wraith Acara, Maraquan Gelert, Faerie Draik, Darigan Chomby, Faerie Hissi, Darigan Draik, Faerie Krawk, Halloween Poogle, Wraith Aisha, Plushie Poogle, Grey Aisha, Grey Draik, Mutant Skeith, Baby Aisha, Maraquan Aisha, Halloween Uni.

    Helleske - I want her to be a Draik for sure. Was thinking either Mutant or Darigan?

    Cupada (not sure if keeping) - I have no idea what to do for her. I found her on Lost Quiggle and thought I should take in this Y5 pet.

    Ickanaymack - No idea

    Noxatra (not sure if keeping) - No idea

    Totorori - Currently considering making them a Chomby or Eyrie

    Mayuree - Thinking of making her a Draik?

    Sinimye - If I do decide to change her color, she's remaining a Poogle no matter what.

    Jumiji - I had considered making them a Wraith Aisha. They are probably going to be an Aisha no matter what.

    Pixelings (not sure if keeping) No idea

    Slothiea (not sure if keeping) No idea

    Theebee - Thinking of keeping them Aisha, but unsure on color.

    Skyeles (not sure if keeping) This is my current lab rat and I only really seem to keep her around because her states have beefed up a bit thanks to the lab.

    Anyone remember music taste and font rating boards? (Neoboards nostalgia thread)

    Today I logged onto my old Photobucket account for the first time in years and found this screenshot from 2011 which unlocked a bunch of memories I didn't know I had.

    Am I crazy, or were these "I'll rate your music taste/please rate my music taste" boards EVERYWHERE on the Fan Clubs and Newbies chat pre-2013 or so? Most of the people involved must have been older millennials, because I remember seeing The Strokes and Arcade Fire on nearly every list. This was before poptimism so listing Britney/Gaga/Rihanna/Katy Perry/Kesha (back when she was Ke$ha) etc. was guaranteed to get you mocked and a 0/10 rating. Or 0%, as percentage ratings were considered cool for some reason. Drama and fighting in these rating threads were not uncommon. I would get my feelings hurt just reading them lmao so I never participated.

    Also, anyone remember how font rating boards were a thing? (I'm using the word "font" here synonymously with NeoSignature, not typeface.) I think those were mostly on the Avatar chat. Sure, there are still players today who are into making fancy signatures, but I rarely see anyone nowadays talk about how fonts were the basis of a HUGE subculture on Neo in the late 00s/early 10s. There were entire guilds made up of font enthusiasts and dedicated to making and discussing fonts. People would hand out graphics or "font awards" on rating boards, which recipients would compile and showcase on a petpage. I actually still have my old font award collection up if you want to see some examples.

    A few font-related observations and memories of those days:

    • Font rating could be VERY serious business. Like the music taste raters, some font raters prided themselves on being harsh and would warn people that they rarely gave scores higher than 3/10 or whatever. I remember getting a 0.5/10 rating once. Ouch.

    • As with the music taste raters, if someone used percentage ratings it meant that they were not fucking around. They were a Serious Font Hobbyist.

    • For Serious Font Hobbyists, making your main text anything other than Tahoma or Verdana size 1 was a federal crime.

    • The Serious Font Hobbyists were extremely picky regarding avatars and there was a rough hierarchy of which avatars were cool/acceptable to use and which ones were not. Default avatar = cool. Most default pet and faerie avatars = not cool. Why, I have no idea. Also, having a default avatar and no pet (back when you weren't required to create one) was considered ideal, I guess for the minimalist aesthetic or something. There was a weird and ironic point in time when it seemed like half the Avatar chat used the default avatar.

    • It was very trendy to substitute letters with Greek letters in signatures, e.g. ωαtεr fαεriε.

    • In 2008 you could click on almost any thread and find someone with a signature quoting that "I can ride my bike with no handlebars" song.

    • When I was about eleven, I joined a font guild and posted with a font I blatantly ripped off from someone I saw on the AC. Turns out the person I stole from was a member of the guild and I got called out immediately. Oops. I didn't how to respond so I just blocked everyone in the guild and left.

    • I didn't get harassed or anything after that, but other people who stole fonts or used premade fonts (mostly from SunnyNeo) and claimed them as their own were routinely named and shamed. Font thievery drama was VERY common.

    • I still have the HTML saved for all my old signatures from those days. Here are some of the cringiest ones. Note the default avatars and Greek letters. I also had a signature with the words "totally toasteh" for the toast avatar.

    That's all I can remember for now. If anyone has ANY memories of this music taste/font-rating era, I'd love to hear them. I want to know I haven't hallucinated all of this, lol. Any other Neoboards-related stories are encouraged too!
