    If you have Chrome: get Tampermonkey to use it! Greasemonkey for Firefox, and I'm unsure about other browsers.

    Approximating the number of active players with 10,000 dubloons.

    Disclaimer : This method isn't 100% accurate and makes a ton of assumptions but it's better than nothing so...

    I bought 10,000 one dubloon coins and donated them to the money tree on 12/11/2020.

    It took a little above 3 hours for the dubloons to all be claimed. Since each player can obtain 10 items per day from the money tree, it requires at least 1,000 players to clean out my dubloon dump. This took place from 2:45 AM PST to 6 AM PST where 10,000 dubloons were donated and claimed from the money tree along with anything else donated in the 10 minutes it took me to donate 10,000 dubloons.

    This means at least 1,000 unique players were online between 2:45 AM to 6 AM PST either doing dailies or having been told about this giant dubloon donation. So the conclusion (with this one really random experiment) is that Neopets has at least 8,000 unique daily online accounts.

    This is the minimum guess because the least amount of people required to claim 10,000 dubloons is 1,000. There were people who didn't claim any, claimed a few, or just don't do the money tree at all.

    Additionally, it's not known whether 3AM to 6AM PST is peak active hours for Neopets, it could be the hours of lowest Neopets activity for all I know. If it turns out 3AM to 6AM is actually peak hours for Neopets then there may be less than 8000 unique daily online accounts.

    Fun details:

    Ghosts will steal everything off the money tree at 12:02AM. This clears all the available items on the tree + the backlog.

    If you have more than 2,000 items in your inventory at once quick stock will lag badly. Taking a minute to process your request. Once I had less than 2,000 items it only took 3 seconds to process my quick stocks.

    If this is true (or even close to true) then it's pretty dire for Neopets. I remember the first time I discovered they had an online user counter on the homepage it said 10,000 at midnight PST (the counter is no longer there). That's more than this experiment assumes plays for the entire day now.

    The next step is for someone to donate 100,000 dubloons at 12:03 AM NST and see if they have all been claimed within the day. This will let us know if Neopets has at least 10,000 active users. Not me, I spent all my money on other things.

    If anyone else has any ideas for fun experiments to determine the number of active accounts let me know.

    I'm not just talking about the chonky chomby or the chia of horror from this year's advent. I bought fyoras vicennial crown and put it on my royalgirl zaffie and it looked incredibly out of place. The color scheme and theme should have made it a perfect fit but it just looked... wrong. The Neopets art style is a huge part of their brand and they're just throwing it in the trash in exchange for jarring realism. It doesn't even make sense to me. They've made it clear that they want to pander to a younger crowd, but they're aggressively pushing a more mature art style.

    Anyways, there are so many talented artists that cut their teeth on this site, I wish TNT would let them contribute more meaningfully.
