    Hello everyone! As you might have heard from recent news, a security engineer (or hacker, if you will) gave Neopets an unsolicited security audit and found some security holes. TNT patched them pretty quickly and made an editorial response today.

    TL;DR:

    • Change your passwords (and pins). You should change your password/pin every 4-6 months or so.

    • Never use the same password for multiple services/websites.

    • Use a password manager, and use randomized passwords. If you can remember your password, you have a bad password.

    How To Change Your Password/Pin/E-Mail On Neopets

    Passwords:

    1. Click the "My Account" tab in the top left corner, and click "Modify Account Information" (or you could click over to Edit Profile from the drop-down).

    2. Find "Current Password" and type in your present password, then enter your new password in the following two text boxes, New Password and Confirm Password.

    3. Once you are done, scroll down and select the "Change Your Details" box.

    Note: Apparently you can not log in (at least on beta) if your password has a space in it. You can change your password to contain a space, but you cannot log in with it. So, stick to numbers/letters/symbols.

    In the event you forget your new (or current) password for some reason, head over to this link to have a password reset link sent to the e-mail address linked to the account.

    Pins:

    1. Click the "My Account" tab in the top left corner, and click "PIN Preferences."

    2. On the page, you can create a 4-number Neopets PIN. Click the "submit" once you're done.

    3. After that, you may select the locations where you would like a PIN confirmation. You do not have to attach a PIN to every location.

    4. To change (or remove) your PIN or its settings, enter your Neopets PIN and click the "submit" box.

    Note: In the event you forget your new (or current) pin for some reason, scroll below to find this link where the PIN will be sent to the linked e-mail address.

    E-mail:

    1. Click the "My Account" tab in the top left corner, and click "Change Email Address."

    2. You will be provided with the current e-mail linked to the account, and a prompt to change your e-mail. You will need to know your password (and pin) for this.

    3. Once everything has been filled in, hit the "Submit Change" box.

    Note: In the event you are unable to change your e-mail for some reason, send in a support ticket to support@neopets.com and post your ticket number to the Highway to Help thread in the Help NeoBoards.

    Neopets Mobile-Friendly Beta FAQ

    What is Neopets Beta?

    If you haven't heard, support for Adobe Flash is ending on December 31st, 2020, so Neopets Beta (or Neopets mobile-friendly beta) is a new Flash-free interface. You can read more about this in this Jellyneo article and also their latest post.

    Why am I forced into using Neopets Beta?

    As mentioned in the Editorial Issue 916 + End of Flash Update video, it was mentioned that a site-wide conversion will be in effect for all players. This is Neopets now. You can read more in the release notes.

    Is there any way can I go back into the Neopets Classic?

    You can add an "x" to the end of the URL string to return to Neopets Classic (thank you /u/snikkeler_doodle), but this (and probably other variants) will probably be patched in the future.

    Where's the link to __?

    Neopets Beta does not link to most toolbar links, so you'll have to use the bookmark feature for now to save those links.

    How do I change the Beta site theme?

    Head over to your Settings/Preferences and there should be a Beta Theme section. Not all of the site themes have been converted, but at least you can escape the default theme.

    The Mobile-Friendly Beta Launch NeoBoard would be cool for that.

    Getting into my safety deposit box? So far the only way I can figure it out is through my shop *white is also going to be updated to garbage beta soon*.

    No quick stock? Sorry, but hell nah. I stock over 300 items into my shop a day, this is some balogna.

    No refresh on the shop wizard? Are they *trying* to insult the people who are there enjoying the economy aspect? I loved my stupid shop. I literally used it to control my IRL hoarding tendencies. I've actually been using, and enjoying, this site and it's actually been helping me mentally for years- and this is how they *fix* it?

    Games room... 6 available games, only one of which I ever enjoyed.

    Like, I get it. Fixing the site is going to take time. But it's time they've had for years already, going on and on not actually dealing with the fact that they knew this was going to be a problem, and now I'm *paying for a broken site that can't do what I enjoy doing.*

    Sorry neopets, I love you all, (I really do), but I think I'm done. Charging money for premium, or forcing users to use that ad-riddled garbage page, for a broken site is a step too far.

    Not to mention their recent hacking problems. This site has officially become unusable, for me. And I really did love it. I really did, all the flaws aside. But I'm done now.

    My daughter is a year old, I was excited to introduce her to neopets in a couple years. Some fun little games of yesteryear, give her a couple million to really go nuts on a pet, all that. My shop is worth almost 60 million, and I don't even want to touch it now. Ugh.

    EDIT: People keep sending me links to work around the broken aspects. That's not the point. I was paying money for a product. They took the money, they changed the product. The product is broken. I should not have to work around their broken half assed site that I'm paying for. BETA should have been opt-in until it was ready to actually work.

    Finally happened: Site has officially switched to beta

    No more flash, no quick stock, and no premium toolbar. There's only 7 games left, and when you refresh the SW it makes you start a new search.

    And you can't change it back :-))

    Small trick to navigate back to old pages

    This is tedious because you have to do it on every page (though it will stay through refreshes of the page):

    Just type /x (or whatever letter or phrase or whatever, x is a placeholder but also works by itself) at the end of the URL for any page and it seems to bring you back to the old version of that page.

    Ex: neopets.com/inventory.phtml/x will bring you to the old/normal version of that page.

    Hope this helps some folks! I have no idea why this works or if it'll be patched or whatever soon but it's helping me keep my sanity at the moment so I wanted to share lmao

    Edit: Seems to not work for several pages, but it works for inventory and some dailies so it's worth something at least hahaha

    How hard would it have been to transfer the homepage to html5 or whatever they use? It wasn't very flash heavy to begin with, if I'm not mistaken... it feels so unnecessary. while yeah it's ugly its just weirdly complex to navigate, especially considering their intended audience is children? There's so many better directions this could've gone!

    EW, I HATE THE BETA SITE SO MUCH! I recently returned to neopets a few weeks ago and I'm just really disappointed. I'm not even one of those people who's on neo for purely nostalgic reasons. I'm okay with site changes.

    I understand that they needed to make the site function without flash and beta is probably extremely rushed. The sparse visuals they do have are hot garbage and the site is barely functional, it's not just aesthetics. I really do hope that the beta site gets better as they do updates and whatnot. I'm just regretting not rejoining neopets years ago so I could've enjoyed the classic site longer.

    Anyone else ready to just call it quits? Sad that this is how it's gonna end, but I cannot see myself putting in the energy to learn how to use this broken, fugly new layout, with seemingly hardly any of the Flash assets actually converted. It looks like customization is working, but IIRC that's only because an outside company literally converted everything FOR TNT. I simply cannot fathom that THIS is what they spent all year working on.

    I'm sure someone is gonna think it's an overreaction, but is anyone else just gonna quit if this is the future?

    ETA: I was mistaken about who TNT tapped to help with customization; sorry for the misinfo!

    Is there anything we can make to stop BETA from becoming Neopet's new norm? Or a way to block BETA pages? Perhaps sending emails to TNT? I simply cannot play in that mode, is too big and, honestly, ugly. You can't see maps, nor stores, galleries, etc. I rather play in the classic mode but now some pages load in BETA and others in classic mode, I am going crazy!
